IRDye®800 (Figure 1) is a near-infrared fluorescent dye commonly used to label DNA and RNA primers and probes. IRDye®800 is characterized by low-background autofluorescence, which ensures good detection sensitivity and offers the opportunity to use IRDye®800-labelled oligonucleotides in a variety of applications, both in vivo and in vitro. IRDyes are ideally suited for concurrent multi-colour imaging applications by virtue of the dyes' narrow emission spectrum and the absence of crossover between fluorophores. IRDye®800 represents an excellent alternative to WellRED dye D2.
